We recognize that there are many acronyms that serve electrical wire and cable, some of which can be confusing. Some of the more common ones are THHN and THWN, which stand for “thermoplastic, high-heat resistant nylon) and “thermoplastic, heat and water-resistant nylon” wire, respectively. Both are resistant to high-heat applications and THWN is resistant to wet conditions as well. Another type of electrical cable we sell here is SER, or service entry cable, which is used for power delivery to buildings. The color of a wire’s insulation may also indicate its intended use.
